Private Pandemic Painting Party Para Usted

I have a new exhibit hanging in a new Bloomfield gallery space.  The show features many of my latest paintings, most of which have been created during these "pandemic times" and unseen by the public.  It's a hodgepodge of subjects I've grown pretty fond of and I'd love for you and yours to see the resulting collection.

For safety's sake, there will be no opening reception.  The gallery will only be open by appointment to groups of five or less.  There won't be any finger foods or refreshments either, but there will be dozens of new paintings on display for you to enjoy in the company of your closest family and friends...and me, of course.

Masks will be required at all times inside the gallery and appointments are limited to one hour.  To schedule your appointment, send an email to wyattlegrand@gmail.com with "pandemic paintings" as your subject.  You will receive a confirmation email with available time slots and directions to the gallery.

I know it's not quite the same as my typical "holiday open house," but I'm excited to give everyone a safe and fun VIP-type experience as consolation.  You know what they say..."When life gives you lemons, go to a socially-distanced art exhibit and forget about the stupid lemons."

Breaking News

It's been a while, hasn't it?  I apologize for neglecting all of you daily-internet-bookmark-checkers out there.  It sounds a lot cooler to say "I needed a break from the obligation of entertaining an assumed internet audience," or something to that effect, but in all honestly, I've been lacking in the time and energy department as of late.  I'm lame.  Sorry about that.  Maintaining the illusion of a hard-working picture-painter is hard work, evidently.  But, whoop-dee-do, right?  No pity party, please.  I have a blog...that's code for cushy lifestyle attuned to lazy hipsterism and internet self-aggrandizing...I'm doing just fine.

As some of you may know already, I'm a school teacher in addition to bona fide painter of pictures.  The most stereotypical cliché of an art teacher you can imagine, in fact.  Here's the kicker...the past several weeks of teaching teenagers how to make pinch pots via webcam has only reinforced the fact that I'm a somewhat pathetic pseudo-version of what many people, including my students, can only hope to aspire to be—an "artist."  But ironically enough, I've done nothing of artistic importance for as long as I can remember now, outside of sharing each weekday with my students and fostering friendships I hope will last longer than the average high school career.  That has to be art, right?  If it is, I'm okay with that, even though friendship is a hard thing to hang on the wall and far from noteworthy in the history of picture-painting.  But let me tell you something I'm sure of—in these pandemic times, within this realm of teacherdom I've deemed so artful and sacred, there is only one sentiment I've had the opportunity to truly communicate....and it's this...

"Put your mask on!"

No kidding, I've said it well over a hundred times today.  Oh, and "Please turn on your webcam and speak towards the microphone when you have a question about your art assignment."  Seriously folks, the most productive thing I've done for the past week outside of health and safety announcements has been the re-application of "hash-marks" on my classroom rulers with a sharpie marker after inadvertently wiping the print off during a routine disinfecting of my classroom.  The rest of my days have been entirely consumed by yelling at a bunch of initialed icons on a computer screen from across the classroom while sanitizing my hands until the skin peels off.  If I hear "new normal" again I'm going to puke...into my facemask.  And I'm thankful for all of this, of course, because a complaint spoken in the wind will eventually fall on deaf ears somewhere...and that's more than what many could ever hope for.  Damn it, I've got it made.

Anyhoo, I've got a picture-painting announcement in the works...so stay tuned...or don't...whatever.

Turns out, Covid outbreaks can be identified and avoided from a distance.  Just look in the direction of those deep rumblings and search for the low and dark clouds on the horizon.  It's not a thunderstorm, it's a collection of invincible Midwesterners in diesel trucks.  I'm afraid fake news still leaves a path of destruction, so I'll just continue to hunker down here in tornado alley, six miles from ground zero.  "Black smoke don't mean it's broke," but what about the driver?

Hot Diggety Dog!

On Saturday, August 15th, I'll be giving a "demonstration" at the Brown County Art Guild in Nashville, Indiana.  It'll be a free show, open to the public until they fill the gallery to half capacity.  I'll probably paint a picture.  I'll probably talk a lot about painting.  I'll probably yell and curse a lot.  Turpentine will be served straight up as a refreshment and cure for the coronavirus.

Things start getting wild at 2pm.  Put a mask on your head, lather up with hand sani, and come enjoy the brouhaha.

How does your garden grow?

If it doesn't get worse, it can only get better.

If the past few months have been an extreme need to urinate during a dull conversation with my boss, childhood hero, and middle school crush at an awkward dinner party in a stranger's home, the past week has been a sneezing fit mid-stream and subsequent f-bomb with no toilet paper in a bathroom within earshot of the dining room during a lull in the dull conversation caused by my abrupt departure.  Next week will be the inevitable "Are you okay?" as I trip over the rug returning to my cold chicken piccata...I ordered the steak.

I watched a cloud blow away from me,
I knew it was far and fast.
But the cloud kept on growing and convinced me to be
Coming much closer and vast.
An illusion that swells with power and might,
A story of God and his way,
Lightning was dimmed by darkness of night
With promise of lightness of day.
How far will a cloud keep on blowing?
How long must a storm rage and writhe,
To appear again to be growing
On horizons between God and I?
How many more suns will rise in the sky?
How many more nights must I wait,
For a cloud to grow so mighty and high
For a man who’s lost all but his faith?

Dyin' 2 B Buyin'

In early March, at the onset of this pandemic thing, I chose to stop selling my paintings.  I'm sure this sacrifice helped absolutely no one, but I guess I don't feel bad about it?  I don't know, really...whatever.

Anyhow, I'm open for business again.  So, if you tried to use your stimulus check to buy a painting in April and were disappointed when I said "Nah," then...well...I'm sure you already spent it on Amazon...so never mind.

But if for some reason you haven't booked your trip to Disney World with that Caribbean cruise refund that's been burning a hole in your pocket, and so long as you acknowledge that my paintings won't save your life during the "second wave" and buying one is a potentially reckless financial decision, I'll sell you whatever you want.  I'm a salesman, obviously.  If you'd like a painting, pandemic-related or otherwise, click HERE to request details or make an appointment.

The Pandemic Paintings will continue until the world allows me to exhibit the paintings as a group in a building filled with people.  It might be next month.  It might be next year.  It might never happen.  Whatever.

Do you think Mickey Mouse will have to wear a face mask?
